Role in SaaS
SalesForce has been around for a decent amount of time (1999) producing CRM software. Although they only focus on one software category, they are essentially the King of SaaS, as their software has become a platform for a wide range of third party applications. SalesForce is the owner of AppExchange, a website that acts as a marketplace for all sorts of on-demand applications.
